Reaching Out
I learnt a lesson today that I won't be forgetting in a hurry. It started out last night when I went out with two of my best friends. Life has really been getting me down lately and when you don't understand what you are going through and why, its pretty difficult to resolve the issues. Having not spoken to anyone about my being upset, it was hard to open up. I'm very much a people pleaser and I'll admit to it, because if that's my worst trait then I'm not too badly off. It does have bad consequences when you constantly put other people's happiness before your own though.
Work and commitments have a way of creeping up on you like the freaky guys in Friars. And when they do, it takes more than an awkward "So, uhm... I'm going to go find my friends" to get rid of them.
Opening up to my friends and just talking about everything helped me come to terms with stuff. I realised I can reach out to people without being embarrassed. You are less on your own than you think! And while you are at varsity, your friends are your family.
It also made me think about how much just listening to someone can help them. The "Hi, how are you?" "Fine thanks" is a common conversation at varsity and as well-meant as it is, you start to feel like a broken record. Then again, maybe you need it to appreciate the heart-felt conversations with your friends. Or even the not so heart-felt ones when you walk into a friend's room and collapse on their bed without a greeting. Its the mutual understanding that makes you feel normal in all the craziness! And the real craziness to think, hey I'm not that bad :)

I quote Baz Lurhman
"Friends come and go, but for the precious few you should hold on to, because the older you get, the more you need the people you knew when you were younger".
There is nothing more special then the moment you realise one of your friends has become a part of your family!I'm glad I get to call you a part of my family and I'm even happier to be a part of yours!
You put the awesome in awesome :)
Much Love!
Your friend forever.
