The “Secret” to Life

The brown and red shades of the cover resemble the violent rays of fire which are so powerful and have the strength to destroy everything in its path, but at the same time it creates new beginnings. She’s holding the book closely to her as she speaks to me in her soothing ways. The book, with so much power is the rock and guidance is her life. The book is her secret.

Khanya Mashalaba, a first year student at Rhodes has had a extremely successful year with regards to life, love, and academics. When asked what her secret is she strongly states “that’s it, it’s the secret!”. A book which holds so many pieces of advice that had influenced many of her decisions this year at Rhodes, has allowed her to “take control of life” and receive all the possible advantages that have come her way. The secret enforces one to think positively about life in order to create a positive connection with the Universe. “The Universe and I are great buddies”. She says with a smile, that says so much.

Khanya tells the story about how the secret has worked in so many ways for her. One particular story which sticks out is the simple fact of laundry. Khanya was going through a busy and tough time with her academics and simply could not find the time to do her laundry. “Our will just wake up at 6.30 tomorrow and do it before the lectures” she said. So, as she said she would, she woke up at 6.30 and tiredly walked to the laundry room to do her laundry. While she was carefully packing her cloths into the washing machine one of the cleaning staff of the residence walked cheerfully into her room and asked why she was doing laundry so early in the morning. Khanya told her that there was no other time that she could her laundry so she had to do it in the morning. The cleaning lady looked at her and smiled and said that Khanya did not have to worry about it, she would do the laundry for her. Khanya tried to argue with her that it was fine “I will do it”, but the cleaning lady wouldn’t take no for an answer. So Khanya thanked her profusely and left for her room with the same question speeding through her mind. “What made the cleaning lady go to the laundry room so early in the morning?”. When Khanya realized what the answer was, she felt a sigh of relief and said to herself “It’s the Secret!”. It was then that Khanya realized that the previous day she had told herself that “something will help me do my laundry, I can feel it”. It was simply because she had told the Universe that something would help her, and in the end it did.

The Secret has become such apart of Khanya’s life that she does not even realize it when she is using it. “The Secret is so powerful that I can even use it for simple things in life like laundry!. “It’s just so amazing”. She says with her vibrant and contagious laugh.

So as we can see, the simple secret to life is, The Secret.
